A day after getting voted out of office, John Sedota got a new seat on the Pomfret Town Board.

Sedota was defeated on Election Day by Ann Eckman and Adam Rak in a three-way race for two seats on the board. However, Eckman announced at Wednesday’s board meeting that Sedota would be filling an open seat. The seat was opened by Brett Christy’s resignation.

After congratulating Rak, Eckman said, “It is the decision of the Pomfret Town Board that we will fill the vacancy with the third vote-getter. That will be done at the January reorganization meeting.”

That meeting is set for Jan. 3 at 5:30 p.m. Eckman, Rak and Sedota will get sworn in and the Town Board will have its full five-member strength again.

The two additional Pomfret Town Board members are Supervisor Daniel Pacos and Christopher Schaeffer. Rak attended Wednesday’s meeting as an audience member.

Sedota will have to run for a full term in November 2024, in a special election.

“The seat will be on the ballot next November,” said town attorney Jeffrey Passafaro.

Starting at $3.50/week.
