The theme for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon to be held at the Clarion Hotel on Monday is "The Time Is Always Right To Do What Is Right." Guest speaker for the luncheon is Vicki T. Sapp, Ph.D.
Sapp currently serves as the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Affirmative Action, ADA Compliance Officer and Title IX Coordinator at the State University of New York at Fredonia. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Medical Education Department at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Belonging (DEIAB) Consultant for the Centers for Disease Control National Center for Emerging Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion Surveillance Branch. Dr. Sapp is a native New Yorker from the South Bronx.
She is a first-generation college graduate three times over; undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degrees. Her research, scholarship and advocacy focus on leadership development, first-generation and student/professionals of color populations, college/career access, retention, success, mentorship, and JEDI initiatives in higher education and healthcare.
In her role at SUNY Fredonia she is responsible for overseeing the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, working collaboratively with divisions, offices and individuals across campus, including Academic Affairs, Information Technology, Enrollment and Student Services, Finance and Administration, and University Advancement to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion across the university. As the Affirmative Action, ADA Compliance and Title IX Officer, Dr. Sapp is responsible for investigating complaints from faculty, staff or students on the basis of discrimination (race, gender, disability, harassment, etc.) and reporting on compliance with federal, state and university policies as well as contributing to the development of campus-wide policies and strategies aimed at enhancing overall operational effectiveness.
Sapp is also a Title IX Resources Advisor, Emotional Intelligent Coach, Green Dot Sexual Assault Bystander Intervention and Mental Health First Aid Trainer. She has her Title IX Level One Coordinator Certificate, University of South Florida Diversity in the Workplace Certificate, and Cook Ross Implicit Bias Train the Trainer Certificate. In addition, she is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, independent consultant with Deal With It Management, LLC, BreatheDeep, Inc. and CEO/Founder of Sapp Consulting Group, LLC.
