Five candidates get backing of county GOP Committee

Five candidates have been endorsed by the Chautauqua County Republican Committee.

Chairwoman Nacole Ellis, Vice Chairman Martin Proctor, and voting members of the committee met on Monday to make their decision. Endorsed party candidates include incumbents U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy of District 23, state Sen. George Borrello of District 57 and county District Attorney Jason Schmidt. Additionally, newcomers Andrew Molitor for the 150th State Assembly district and Peter Johnson for Family Court were backed.

“I am very pleased with the caliber of leadership and representation the Republican Party has offered to Chautauqua County and this years’ slate is an exceptionally strong ticket,” Ellis said. “From Congressman Langworthy on down, I know our Republican Party has the best vision, plan, and platform to support the needs and freedoms of the taxpayers in Chautauqua County. We have an exciting election year ahead and I know the grass roots of the Chautauqua GOP is fired up and ready to get to work!”

Langworthy vowed to continue his efforts for the region. “Chautauqua County is where I was born and raised, so to have the privilege to represent its incredible residents is a true honor,” he said. I have seen what the disastrous policies of Joe Biden and the Democrats have done to our economy, our quality of life, and our future. Whether it’s reining in wasteful government spending and inflation or securing our border, I am fighting every day to return common sense to Washington. With the right policies that unleash America, our nation and the Southern Tier can thrive.

Borrello praised the support. “It is my honor and pleasure to serve the people of this region and I look forward to continuing to ensure that our voice is heard, loud and clear, in Albany,” he said.

Schmidt, who is seeking a second term, promised to “give everything I have, day and night 24/7, toward holding criminals responsible for the harm they have caused. My sincere thanks to the Republican Party for giving me the opportunity to continue my efforts for another four years. I promise, I am just getting started.”

Molitor, who announced he was running once Andrew Goodell announced his retirement last week, is currently the county’s First Assistant District Attorney. “Rest assured that I will work extremely hard and continue the fight for the issues that are most important to us — more jobs, safer communities, stronger schools, and lower taxes and fees,” he said. “I am appalled that Democrats in Albany have abolished bail for hundreds of crimes, made New York a ‘sanctuary state’ for illegal immigrants, and have repeatedly undercut our dedicated law enforcement personnel. As a father with a young family, I am committed to ensuring safer communities, higher quality schools, and a lower cost of living. I look forward to being a strong positive voice for our county in Albany.”

Johnson is running in the spot currently held by Family Court Judge Jeffrey Piazza.“Over the course of the last decade working for the Family Court, I played a critical role in handling all the different types of cases that come before our Family Court. Having lived all these experiences, I stand in an ideal position to serve as judge. During my campaign I hope to convince the voters of at least two things: 1) The Family Court is the most important court; and 2) I am the most qualified candidate to serve as the next Chautauqua County Family Court Judge. I want to thank my team that I am assembling, which certainly includes my wife and four children — without whom I would be unable to achieve this goal.”
