Kindberg To Give JCC Commencement Address

Scott Kindberg, award-winning journalist and author, will present the keynote address to graduates of Jamestown Community College at its 2024 commencement events.

Kindberg is a lifelong resident of Jamestown and the regional sports editor for The Post-Journal and its sister publications the OBSERVER in Dunkirk and Times Observer in Warren since 2020. A recent inductee of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, Kindberg began his career as the assistant general manager of the Jamestown Expos before joining The Post-Journal as a sports reporter in 1983. From 1987-2015, Kindberg became the assistant sports editor, and covered the Buffalo Bills and their four consecutive Super Bowl appearances. His work has earned 14 New York State Associated Press awards.

In addition to the thousands of articles and columns he has written over the years, Kindberg has authored 10 books and co-edited “Our Game: from Unknowns to Tarp Skunks,” a book about the history of baseball in Jamestown.

Kindberg graduated from Jamestown High School and JCC, which awarded him the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2023. A summa cum laude graduate of Point Park University, Kindberg has a degree in journalism and communications, and he has traveled throughout the state following the successes of high school athletes for four decades. Kindberg and Vicki, his wife of nearly 30 years, have three sons and three grandchildren.

Commencement events at JCC are set for 7 p.m. May 17 at the Olean YMCA for graduates of the Cattaraugus County Campus, and 10 a.m. May 18 in the gymnasium of the Physical Education Complex for graduates of the Jamestown Campus. The events will honor graduates from summer and fall 2023, and pending spring 2024.
