Big stage for art show

A spectacular showcase of student creativity returns to Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater this spring with the Annual Pre-K to 12 Art Show scheduled Wednesday and the community is encouraged to attend. The art show takes place between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with judging set for 6:30 p.m. All art students in grades 9-12 will have works on display and featured works by students in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade are also part of the installation. Art teachers Casey Mohr at the elementary level, Charles Wahl at the middle school, and Heather Rydzik and Shelby DeSantis at the high school are looking forward to celebrating the district’s talented students and demonstrating their creative skills. The Art Department believes what it values in the arts should be reflected in the judging process. Retired GCS art teacher Diane Dye along with alumni, faculty and administration all weigh in on the awards. Elementary and middle school projects are judged on technical skill, viewer engagement and creative risk-taking. High school project judging categories include artistic intent, creative risk-taking, and exemplary composition. The Hollywood Theater, 39 West Main St., will have concessions open during the art show. There is no cost to attend the art show, but donations to the theater are always gratefully appreciated. The district is thankful for its ongoing collaborations with the Hollywood Theater that help celebrate its students with the community.
