Hazardous waste to be collected June 8

The city of Dunkirk will host a “Household Hazardous Waste” collection event on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lucas Avenue facility. The event is sponsored by Chautauqua County, the state Department of Environmental Conservation, Storer’s Container Service and Chautauqua County Hazmat.

Materials accepted include used auto fluids, drain cleaners, glue, paint, aerosol cans, varnishes, turpentine, solvents, weed killers and pesticides. Items not accepted include batteries, electronics, prescription drugs, sharps, drywall compound, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and waste oil.

The registration form, which contains a complete list of acceptable/unacceptable items, can be found on the city’s website www.cityofdunkirk.com, City Hall in the City Clerk’s Office, City Treasurer’s Office or Public Works Department or by calling 716-661-8424 for more information.

Completed registration forms will be collected from residents on June 8.
