Sipos appointed as historian for 20th year

CASSADAGA — Cassadaga Village Historian John Sipos was recently appointed for the 20th year during the village board meeting. Sipos has served as the historian for 19 consecutive years, being appointed in 2005.

Among some of his many duties, as the historian, are to keep records of the village, including research and sharing research, and maintaining records for future use. During the village board meeting, Sipos showed his annual notebook of records for 2023, and one of his general historical notebooks to Mayor William Dorman. Other members of the board looked on.

The general historical notebook of information, which he carries to speeches, dates back to at least 200 years of Cassadaga history. The village of Cassadaga was formed in 1809, and incorporated in 1921. Keeping records and doing research is a major part of the historian’s position, Sipos said.

Sipos is a member of the Government Appointed Historians of Western New York, Western New York Appointed Historians Association of Western New York, Appointed Public Historians of Western New York, The Valley Historical Society which serves the Cassadaga Valley area, The Chautauqua County Historical Society, and serves as historian for the Town of Stockton, and historian for the Swedish Thule Lodge.
