Celoron Asks Park-goers To Stay Off Of Playground In Lucille Ball Memorial Park

CELORON — After a few instances where park-goers in Lucille Ball Memorial Park have been using the unfinished playground, the village of Celoron is asking everyone to stay off of it until work can be completed.

It has been three or four weeks since the equipment has been installed, but a solid surface still needs to be laid down. This surface cannot be put down if the area is continuously disturbed by park-goers.

“It’s gated off and there are signs up,” Village Clerk Shirley Sanfilippo said. “They still need to put in gravel and rake it in order to put in the solid surface, but when people keep using the playground they keep having to go in and redo it.”

The village has seen both adults and children on the playground, and is reminding park-goers that until the solid surface has been laid it is not safe to use. Once the contractors working on the playground are able to lay the surface no one is allowed to use it for at least three or four days so it can set and not be damaged. This damage would require repair and additional delays in the opening of the playground. The village is asking for help from local people to be able to complete the final installation by not entering the area so that the playground can be opened in a timely manner.

“The playground is grand and beautiful,” Sanfilippo said. “They are looking to have the hard surface installed in about a week if people stay off of the playground.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
