Dolce Praises Comedy Festival, Notes Future Events

Even though the annual Lucille Ball Comedy Festival has come to an end, there’s still a lot of events left this summer.

During Monday’s Jamestown City Council Work Session, Council President Anthony Dolce noted that it was another successful comedy festival.

“I want to recognize and thank all the people who volunteered, and the work the Comedy Center did over the weekend. They had a very successful weekend. They had a little bit of raindrops but for the most part, they had good crowds,” he said. “It was well received by the community. We had a good turnout. It was another great event for Jamestown.”

Dolce added that there’s still quite a few things coming up in Jamestown. He noted that on Friday is the annual Cruise-In.

There is some concern that remnants from Hurricane Debby may hit the area on Friday. At this point, no changes have been announced.

On the agenda were five block parties, two which had received approval and taken place. The other three are as follows: Aug. 10 for the Stowe Street Block Party, Aug. 17 for the Fairview Avenue Block Party, and Aug. 25 for the Hunter Street Block Party.

There were other upcoming events on the agenda as well.

On Aug. 30 is the Back to School Field Day to be held at Jackson-Taylor Park. Hours, including set-up and teardown, are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Aug. 31 is the Los Contricantes Sixth Annual Back to School Giveaway at Lillian Dickson Park. Hours, including set-up and teardown, are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sept. 21 is the YWCA of Jamestown Latine Festival, which will take place between Main and Cherry streets. Hours, including set-up and teardown, are from 3-9 p.m.
