Marker ceremony Sunday for War of 1812 general
CHERRY CREEK — The local Celea Sampson Cole Chapter 507 of the United States Daughters of 1812, will hold a War of 1812 cemetery marker ceremony for General Putnam Farrington. Farrington was originally from Massachusetts and served with the 13 Reg. New York Militia during the War of 1812. After the War he resided in Cherry Creek.
He is buried in the Old (south) section of the Cherry Creek Central Cemetery (Route 62) (formerly known as the Highland Cemetery) where his marker will be placed after the program. There will be an honorary lone Soldier at the gravesite during the presentation.
The ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Sunday on the “new or North” side of the Cemetery, with General Putnam Farrington’s head stone visible by the guests. After the ceremony, guests will be escorted across Route 62, to the Headstone to place the marker
The Cherry Creek VFW will conduct an honor ceremony. Cherry Creek Historian Tim Nobles will do a presentation about General Farrington. Sharon Howe Sweeting, past Cherry Creek Historian and current Commissioner on the Cemetery Board, will also make a presentation.
Elaine Rissel is the Chaplain for the Celea Sampson Cole Chapter and the Granddaughter of General Putnam Farrington and will be in attendance.
The public is invited to this honorable event.
