RIPLEY — Ripley Central School is expecting an increase in enrollment for the 2024-25 school year, Board of Education members learned at their meeting last month.

Ripley Superintendent William Caldwell told board members that the district is anticipating an enrollment increase of more than 10% in grades K through 6. “For us, this is quite a milestone,” he said.

Caldwell went on to say that the second grade has received a large influx of students. Because of this, the grade will be split into two classes. “In all my years, it seems there is always a grade that receives a huge amount of students,” he said. “I thought second grade would be one section, but now it will have to be split.”

In other business, Caldwell reported that Director of Facilities, Dave Graham, told him the buildings and grounds are nearly ready for the opening of school. “He said we are in great shape. There’s just one more hall to wax,” he said.

Caldwell also told board members that a contractor has spoken with Graham about replacing the school sign at Routes 20 and 76. It is the school’s responsibility to take down the old sign and run the power source to where the new sign will be located, he said.

Additionally, Caldwell told the board that the district is now designated as a “Rising Star” by Capturing Kids Hearts. The district is hosting a field trip for training and celebration, he said.

School Principal Micah Oldham reported that Eagle-U has come to a successful close, with students enjoying a summer filled with learning, play, and personal growth. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents for their ongoing support, ensuring their children’s consistent participation in the program,” he said. “We also sincerely thank the providers for creating a joyful and enriching experience for our students.”

Caldwell reminded board members that the first day of school was Tuesday.
