Are you moaning about zoning in Dunkirk? Make yourself heard at a meeting today.

The city government has invited all residents and stakeholders to kick off a zoning law update by participating in a workshop at 5:30 p.m. The workshop will be at the Fredonia Innovation Center, 214 Central Ave.

According to a release from the city, “The City of Dunkirk zoning update is intended to codify policies and recommendations from the city’s 2019 comprehensive plan and ensure the city’s land use regulations are aligned with key smart growth development principles.”

The city has contracted with Colliers Engineering & Design and FHI Studio, a team of community planning and zoning professionals, to lead the effort.

Today’s meeting is set to begin with a brief presentation on the project scope and process. There will be an introduction to land use and smart growth principles, and a launch of a community preference survey. The survey will remain open after the meeting for continued feedback on desirable land uses, development character, and the appropriate level of regulatory oversight within the city.

A summary of the workshop and an online CPS will be made available on the city’s website for anyone unable to attend. Additional public input opportunities will also be offered later in the process to shape and provide feedback on the proposed code revisions.

This project is funded through a New York Department of State Environmental Protection Fund Smart Growth Community Planning and Zoning Program grant, as well as through the Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC) and Chautauqua County Partnership for Economic Growth (CPEG).

More project information can be found on the city’s website: www.cityofdunkirk.com/government/departments/building_and_zoning/.

Starting at $2.99/week.
