County history today

November 30, 1947 – The last run of the JW & NW Railroad marked the end of the electric passenger inter-urban rail service in New York State. This event signified a shift in transportation methods, as the county and state increasingly relied on automobiles and other modern forms of travel.

December 1, 1833 — The Cassadaga Baptist Church was organized in Stockton, becoming the town’s first church.

Dec. 1, 1971: Heritage Village, a nursing home in Gerry, opened to provide care for seniors.
