Statewide organization elects Pine Valley nurse as president

Jill Kenney

SOUTH DAYTON – The administration of Pine Valley Central School District announced that longtime school nurse Jill Kenney was recently voted President of the New York State Association of School Nurses.

Kenney has been a board member of NYSASN for the past six years. Her voluntary and active involvement with this professional organization’s Board of Directors includes holding past offices of Zone 14 representative and president elect. In addition, Kenney is the recipient of the 2019 Excellence in School Nursing Award.

“Our Panther family knows the leadership position Nurse Kenney has undertaken plays a key role in the success of all Pine Valley students,” says Kourtney Almeida, principal of Pine Valley Jr./Sr. High School. “We admire her commitment and dedication to the profession of school nursing, and we believe school nurses positively influence student outcomes.”

As part of NYSASN’s collaborative efforts to guide the practice of school nursing and ensure the health and educational success of all children, Kenney has many opportunities to network with school nurses across the Empire State. She will preside over NYSASN committee meetings, the annual NYSASN membership meeting, and a board meeting in Albany from March 20-22, 2025.

“Involvement in NYSASN benefits both members and their school districts,” says Annette Cobb, past president of NYSASN, in a letter announcing Kenney’s leadership dated February 11, 2025. “We provide school nurses with the most current information regarding mandates and legislative issues affecting school health.”

Cobb notes NYSASN offers school nurses opportunities to further develop and enrich their skills. Their knowledge then becomes part of their districts’ educational database shared with staff, parents, and students.
