BROCTON — Brocton-Portland Seniors celebrated their 50-year anniversary on Tuesday, April 29 at Tri Church Parish in Brocton with 63 members and eight guests.

President Margaret Jagoda welcomed Pat and George Cook, John and Chris Savage who entertained with great songs, one was “Lessons” ending with favorite “Crazy.”

In celebration of the 50 years, representatives who spoke were Lisa Vanstrom for state Sen. George Borrello, Missy Paterniti for state Assemblyman Andrew Molitor and Brian Abram for U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy.

Craig Miller, mayor of Brocton will display the certificates and proclamations in the Village Hall for all to see. Historical pictures and past years items were displayed. Two 50-year founding members Rita Stonefoot and Patricia Zanghi were unable to attend.

Clara Wilder gave Prayer of Thanks and Tom DeJoe led the Pledge of Allegiance. Catered luncheon of ham or chicken, roasted red potatoes, roll, mixed vegetables ended with three-flavor of cake.

Committee thanked Rita Bennett, Rose and Laurel Giambra, Rose Miller, Barbara Crandall, Jagoda and Linda Riley.

Ahira Hall Library “Threads Of History” series, second Tuesday of each month, begins this week with guest speakers George Travis and Ann Wood.

May 22 is Senior CHQ Expo at SUNY Fredonia from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Word was received of the passing of Beulah Williams, a longtime member.

Ten Easter basket centerpieces made by Linda Riley went to happy winners followed by 12 lucky raffle winners.

The next meeting will be May 27 to be catered by St. Stephen’s Cafe at member cost. The menu is meatloaf, red potatoes, tossed salad and green beans.
