Summer issues dominate city agenda

Summertime fun dominates the Dunkirk Common Council’s agenda tonight.

There are 11 requests from the public for use of city streets or facilities, or for loudspeaker permits. There’s also a resolution to renovate the Boardwalk deck and steps.

Among the public requests:

— The Elks Lodge on Central Avenue wants a loudspeaker permit for June 14 so it can use a sound system.

— The Dunkirk Police Benevolent Association seeks a June 27 loudspeaker permit for the Fairgrounds on Central Avenue so it can host a band.

— Alexa Urbaniak wants a loudspeaker permit for July 19 so the band Furious George can play her college graduation party at Point Gratiot Park.

— American Legion Post 62 seeks to block off Central Avenue from Second to Third streets for a July 27 car show. A separate request seeks a loudspeaker permit for a DJ at the event.

— The Lake Shore Drive East bar Rookies, aka Vibe on Five, seeks a loudspeaker permit for its summer slate of bands and DJs.

— Brian Meyer has made his annual request to host the Dunkirk Flea Market in the city lot on the corner of Washington Avenue and Lake Shore Drive East.

The Boardwalk resolution authorizes S. Tabone Construction of Fredonia to finish work on the stairs for $15,000 “so that (they) will be installed for the city’s busy spring and summer.”

The resolution states that S. Tabone was previously awarded a contract for Boardwalk deck work but required two change orders. In the changes, the company is supposed to use $8,500 to fix stairs on the north end of the Boardwalk, and $6,500 to repair the red asphalt at the base of the stairs.

The $15,000 for the project is coming from a state grant, according to the resolution.

Starting at $3.50/week.
