The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its monthly meeting at the Legion Post, Tuesday, June 10 with 17 senior members attending.
The evening started with a potluck dinner & conversation that all enjoyed. The meeting that followed was opened in regular fashion; previous meeting minutes were read, and the Treasurer gave the May report. Chaplain Paula Pattison reported she has sent sympathy & get-well cards to Legion Family members as needed.
Membership chair Sally Lawson noted there are still a few Unit 1280 members not paid for 2025. To keep your continuous years, $30 dues need to be paid before the 2026 cards are issued. Members can pay by bringing them to the Post or mail them to: Cassadaga Auxiliary Unit 1280/ 228 Maple Avenue/Cassadaga, 14718.
Poppy chair Lauren Sharp reported we had a very successful Poppy season and thanked everyone that volunteered their help.
On Memorial Day, there were 11 cemetery visits, two parades, and a ceremony at the Cassadaga cemetery; prayers, songs, placing of wreaths, speeches, gun salutes, and Taps were played to honor our fallen.
Unit 1280 will continue to be at the remaining Cruise Nights that will be the last Tuesday of the summer months: June 25, July 29 and Aug. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m.
It was noted that there will a Post 1280 Flag Retirement ceremony, Monday June 16 at the Lawson field.
Lawson reminded everyone that Cassadaga’s “National Night-out” will be held Wednesday Aug. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John Fessenden ballfields, in Cassadaga.
Unit members voted to donate to Samaritan House, and the AUX/SAL Walk-a-thon.
Unit 1280 does not meet in July. Its next meeting will be our annual summertime get together with a dish-to-share gathering, at the Post, Tuesday Aug. 12 at 6 p.m., with an informal meeting to follow. Unit 1280 has nice corn brooms for sale at $18 each; and Unit 1280 continues to collect stamps, “Pennies for Hospice”; and “can tabs” for Troop support”.
