Flag burning ceremony held in Cassadaga

Photograph by John Sipos, Cassadaga Historian

Following Flag Day, the Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280 held the flag burning ceremony for those flags which needed to be disposed. Post Commander Mitch Hoinski opened the ceremony with the reading, that since 1937, The American Legion has held a specific flag retirement ceremony of worn and unusable American Flags. These flags have been used and served, and the proper disposal is by burning them. Chaplain Richard Haas gave the opening prayer, and the bugle was played. The Honor Guard present gave one final salute before the fire was lit. Archie Colton and David Muscato were present for the burning ceremony with one of the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department trucks. The ceremony was attended by many.

Starting at $3.50/week.
