Fredonia hires teacher from Little Seeds

The Fredonia Central School District recently hired a new teacher that did not even have to switch buildings to join the family.

The Board of Education approved the appointment of Jeni Wilson to a probationary Special Education teaching position. Wilson comes to the district with familiarity from the Little Seeds program, which currently utilizes space at the Wheelock campus.

“I can’t speak enough to the environment that Wheelock is. When the position opened, it’s honestly one of my dream positions. I love teaching preschool, I love the world of Special Education, so I just couldn’t help but apply,” Wilson said. “I’m really excited to be part of the Fredonia family.”

Wilson is certified in Students with Disabilities for Grades 1-6, Students with Disabilities of All Grades, Early Childhood Education from Birth to Grade 2, and Childhood Education from Grades 1-6. The position Wilson will fill was created by reassigning a pre-kindergarten classroom teacher position. In doing so, the district will receive partial reimbursement for the Special Education services provided.

“This is a cost-effective move, as well as a move that really supports students, so it’s a win-win-win on a few different levels,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox said.

Six substitutes were also appointed by the Board: Michael Hahn, Amy Spears, Andrew Camp, Jennifer Smith, Cindy Thurston, and Timothy Korzenieski. Teachers Cathy Cruver and Ellen Kennelly were approved for overages, effective June 10. Resignations were accepted from Tiffany Rivera-Reyes, Food Service Helper, effective May 28, and from Felicia Ellis, Teacher Aide, effective June 27.

The Board also approved contracts with Children’s Educational Services, Inc., for Summer 2025 services pertaining to occupational therapy at a cost of $7,560, and physical therapy at a cost of $2,646. Summer school positions were also finalized by the Board, including teachers, aides, speech therapists, cleaners, a school nurse, a food service worker, and technology professionals.

The next meeting of the Fredonia Board of Education is Tuesday, July 1 at 6 p.m., beginning with the annual organizational meeting followed by the regular meeting.

Starting at $3.50/week.
