Taking a stand

Recent weather quirks, including hail, sudden wind gusts, and torrential downpours have tested the resolve of local citizens to demonstrate their concern for the course that our current administration is taking. Nevertheless, they persisted on May 17 with a rally in downtown Fredonia. Determined, they stood in the rain with signs directed toward the passing traffic, in support of women’s rights. In Washington, D.C., there were demonstrations also in defense of women and in support of veterans and the funding for their care. Local organizers will continue to follow national events in order to give people here a chance to experience participation. The next rally planned is for June 14, in opposition to the president using taxpayer money to hold an extravagant military parade. Pictured at the gazebo is Mary Croxton, president of the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters, speaking on the history of women’s suffrage.

Starting at $3.50/week.
