Boil-water order remains in effect in village
A boil-water order remained in effect for Fredonia users, including Pomfret, on Wednesday and was expected to continue on Thursday.
A treatment technique violation at the water treatment plant resulted in high turbidity such that water entering the distribution system was not adequately treated. This water could contain harmful microbes. Boiling the water kills bacteria and other microbes that may be present.
All Fredonia water customers must boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and making coffee until further notice. Water must be brought to a rolling boil for one minute then cooled prior to use.
Fredonia Animal Hospital, in a Facebook post, noted that the residents should “include your pets” in the order. “Make sure their drinking water is safe too.”
Fredonia Fire Department noted that “boil orders can pose difficulties for anyone. If you need aid please reach out to us through private message and we will discuss your situation and offer any assistance possible.” The phone number for the department is 716-672-2125.
County officials said Tuesday that once the treatment process has been fully restored to normal operations and the untreated water has been flushed from the distribution system, the village will collect water samples on consecutive days to make sure the water is safe.
