A fire at the NRG plant was handled late Thursday by Dunkirk Fire Department.

At 11:25 p.m., the firefighters were dispatched to a report of an electrical fire at NRG, located at 106 Point Drive North.

Upon arrival, crews found a smoldering fire in the ceiling of a conveyor belt area. This location was difficult to access and necessitated the use of an aerial ladder in order for firefighters to be able to extinguish the fire.

Crews remained on scene for approximately two hours. There were no injuries. Fredonia Fire Department and East Dunkirk Fire Department assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire was determined to be sparks from work being done in the area earlier in the day and not electrical in nature.
