Forestville rings in commencement

FORESTVILLE – The Class of 2025 rang the bell one last time on their journey at Forestville Schools. Saturday’s Commencement ceremony served as a celebration of their hard work and a turning point for the next chapter in their stories.

Following the traditional pomp and circumstance processional, a welcome was made by Principal Dan Grande, introducing Salutatorian Kaitie LoManto.

“To everyone who doesn’t already know, throughout these 13 years we have been known as the ‘quiet class,’ which is a nice way of saying we were slightly boring, compared to other loud, energetic classes,” she said. “But once you get to know us, you’d realize that we are full of creativity and thoughtfulness that makes us unique.”

LoManto encouraged her classmates to embrace the fear of the unknown and celebrate what they have accomplished.

“I for one feel nervous to enter the unknown, but maybe it’s ok to be afraid of the unknown and push forth anyway, because what would life be without a little risk and a leap of faith? You can’t live by always playing it safe. … As we move forward, don’t forget what brought you here, always remember Forestville is your home, and no matter where you end up, be proud of how far you have come,” she added.

The salutatorian’s speech was followed by the commencement address from Forestville alumnus Jeffrey Paul Kuciapinski, Class of ’88, who entered the field of education after leaving high school.

“What I’ve learned over the past three decades in education — and what I want to share with you today — is that success isn’t measured by a straight line. Life will offer detours, roadblocks, and unexpected opportunities. The key is not knowing exactly where you’re headed, but being prepared for the journey, and staying true to who you are along the way,” he said, encouraging the graduates to be present, be kind and give back.

The awards ceremony was led by Mrs. Laurie Becker, Mr. Grande and Ms. Brianne Hazelton. The prestigious scholarships awarded totaled over $14,000.

In his valedictorian address, Benjamin Bock emphasized the importance of the pursuit of happiness in the next chapter for the Class of 2025.

“While there are many good goals to have, like doing well in school or making money, there is also the bigger goal of happiness. As Aristotle said, ‘Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.’ I believe true and lasting happiness is the most important goal for everyone to have,” he said.

Board of Education President Andrea Spengler and District Superintendent Dr. John O’Connor presented diplomas to the Forestville Class of 2025 before they turned the tassel. Then the graduates headed outside for the traditional bell ringing ceremony, signifying the end of the school year and their days at FCS.

Graduation ended in a pop of confetti and the cap toss. Congratulations to the Class of 2025!
