Chipotle plans to be heard Aug. 20

DUNKIRK — The idea of a Chipotle restaurant coming to Dunkirk seems even more realistic after a recent development in the town.
After plans for a new Chipotle Mexican Grill were reviewed by Town of Dunkirk Code Enforcement Officer Ryan Mourer, it was determined that no variance was required for the project. As a result, the meeting scheduled for this Wednesday, Aug. 13, has been cancelled. Instead, a meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20 for the Town of Dunkirk Planning Board to review the site plan.
After the Town of Dunkirk updated its local laws this past year, the Planning Board has the authority to approve projects in the town that abide by the laws in place. Following the presentation of the site plan to the Planning Board and discussion on Aug. 20, it will be up to the Planning Board to decide whether to approve the project or if any stipulations will be added to its final submission.
The plans call for a new building to be constructed in the parking lot of the same plaza that hosts TJ Maxx and Harbor Freight. It was initially thought that a variance would be required to meet the necessary parking requirements, but now that the meeting to discuss a variance has been cancelled, it appears that parking is no longer an issue.
Chipotle would be the latest in a string of new restaurants in the town of Dunkirk, as 7 Brew Coffee was just approved last month. Starbucks Coffee and a Popeyes restaurant both recently opened in the town, as well.
The Planning Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the Dunkirk Town Hall and Court.
