Letchworth visit filled with history

Eight members of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution went on a field trip to Letchworth State Park. Members arrived at Parker Park in Leicester and heard the story of Sullivans’ Raids on the Seneca Village of Little Beards Town. This Revolutionary War massacre decimated Indian fields and homes killing many women and children. Boyd and Parker were captured and revenge was taken on them here at the torture tree. From here we went into Letchworth State Park and stopped at Gardeau Overlook looking across the Genesee River and the site of Mary Jemison’s home. A short drive and we were at The Council Ground with the statue of Mary Jemison, pictured, at the time when she traveled from Ohio to Western New York carrying her 18-month-old son Thomas. The group finished the trip with lunch at the Glen Iris Inn.

Starting at $3.50/week.
