DAR welcomes new members at White Inn

From left are Myra Johnston, Regent, Sandra Haskin, Marilyn Desnerck and Shannon McRae, new members, with Deborah Cenni, chaplain.

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a dinner meeting this month at the White Inn in Fredonia. The meeting was called to order with 18 members present and two guests.

The opening ritual was led by Regent Myra Johnston and Deborah Cenni, Chaplin. The President General Report on the new Storage administration was read by Carol Abell.

The National Defender article ties into the Lafayette Tour that the group and Fredonia celebrated in June. On Sept. 5, two Benjamin Prescott members, Brenda Johnson and Deborah Stauring were leaving for Washington, D.C., for Lafayette’s final farewell. The French were instrumental to the American Patriots. The article tells of the American Revolutionaries procuring French gunpowder from Antoine Lavoiser – France’s Gunpowder Guru. With his exacting standards and shipments leading to the American victory at Saratoga in 1777, a decisive moment for independence.

Barbara Pietro, registrar, reported there were four new members. Sandra Haskin, Shannon McRae, and Marilyn Desnerck were inducted by ceremony by Johnston and Deborah Cenni, chaplain. They were welcomed to the Society with a yellow rose of friendship and a folder of materials. Darcel McLane will be inducted later.

Bonnie Larkin compiled a great book on the Sinclair family that founded Sinclairville. She has been in contact with a Sinclair descendant in Washington State and together they accumulated the information. She is donating a copy to the Sinclairville Library and one to the Barker Library. The book can join our other records at the Barker Library.

Plans are proceeding for the Veterans Day Celebration and Christmas Baby Shower.

The next regular meeting will be on Oct. 2 at The Patterson Library Westfield at 1 p.m.

If you are over 18 years of age and had an ancestor who fought or gave aid to the brave soldiers that fought and won the American Revolutionary War and would like to join us, please call Barbara Pietro at 716-392-1166 or email her at jbpietro@gmail.com.

Starting at $3.50/week.
