SUNY Fredonia to hold campus-wide lockdown drill this Wednesday

The State University of New York at Fredonia will conduct a campus-wide lockdown drill on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 10:15 a.m., as part of its ongoing commitment to the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Coordinated by University Police and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and Sustainability, the exercise will test the university’s NY-Alert emergency notification system and the manual locking capabilities of occupied campus spaces.

“A lockdown drill ensures that our community knows exactly what to do in the event of a real emergency,” said Charles J. Holder, emergency planning coordinator. “Preparedness is key to minimizing risks and keeping people safe.”

The drill is expected to last about 15 minutes. Members of the campus safety team will inspect selected buildings to verify that lockdown procedures are followed.

“Our goal is to foster a culture of readiness on campus,” said University Police Chief Gordon Carpenter. “These drills not only strengthen our emergency response capabilities but also reinforce our collective responsibility for safety.”

The university encourages all members of the campus community to ensure they are signed up for NY-Alert, which sends emergency notifications via text, email, and phone. More information is available at fredonia.edu/nyalert.

Starting at $3.50/week.
