City school fights online virus, warns of emails
OBSERVER Staff Report
The Dunkirk City School District disclosed Tuesday morning that it fought off a computer virus attack, and it’s warning residents and users to be wary of emails allegedly coming from the district.
District Superintendent Brian Swatland said in a letter posted to a DCSD social media account that the malware attack happened Monday. “This prompted us to reset all passwords for faculty and staff,” he wrote.
“If you received an email that originated from @g.dunkirk.csd.org and included a link to a DocuSign document, please delete it. If you opened this email and entered a password, you should immediately change all of your passwords,” Swatland stated.
The superintendent said DCSD has internal plans to deal with malware attacks which “worked to limit the impact and spread of the virus,” and is continuing to monitor the situation.
He emphasized, “At this time, we have NOT found that student data was compromised.” Swatland promised to communicate further updates as needed.
