In the very brief, special Thursday meeting, held in the middle-high school library, 26 Institute St., school board members voted to accept Cook’s resignation which went into effect Oct. 24.
Cook had been on paid leave since June, when the school board suspended her, and John McLaughlin, the district’s buildings and grounds maintenance supervisor.
School Board President Michael LeBaron said Cook presented the board with a written statement.
“I would like to thank the Frewsburg school community for the opportunity to serve as superintendent. It has been an honor to work on behalf of the students, staff, and families who make this district such a special place,” Cook said in the statement. “I have made the decision to step away from this role in order to prioritize my family and pursue new professional endeavors that allow me to reconnect with the work I love most. I will remain a committed partner to the Frewsburg school community in a different capacity, and wish the board of education, and administration the very best as they continue to navigate the many challenges facing today’s schools.”

Cook came to Frewsburg after being superintendent of the Randolph Academy Union Free School District, and a principal at Panama Central School.
A graduate of Penn State Behrend, Cook earned her B.A. in psychology and earned a M.Ed. in Educational Psychology, and Ed.S. in School Psychology from Edinboro University, now known as Pennsylvania Western University, Edinboro.
LeBaron said board members are relieved that the situation is behind them.
“We’re not going to look behind us,” LeBaron said. “We’re looking forward to the task we have in front us – board business in general.”
Also in June, Tiffany Frederes was appointed acting superintendent and continues in that role.
“The board will now start the process of searching for a new superintendent,” LeBaron said.
In a related matter, LeBaron said the investigation with Joshua Gilevski is continuing.
The school board placed Gilevski on administrative leave in September. According to frewsburgcsd.org, Gilevski serves as the coordinator of student affairs.
LeBaron said at the board’s Oct. 10 meeting that Gilevski was not charged with anything.
“We’re investigating something that pertains to his position in the district,” LeBaron said.
