United Way, wineries partner in winter collection drive
United Way of Chautauqua County staff recently met with Lake Erie Wine Country and local winery owners as well as United Way of Erie County staff to discuss "Gift of Giving" — a new partnership and collection drive. United Way is partnering with Lake Erie Wine Country this holiday season to help keep local families warm. Through Dec. 15, the 20 wineries of Lake Erie Wine Country will collect new winter items as part of a new regional initiative called Gift of Giving. All donated items will be collected and distributed by United Way of Chautauqua County and United Way of Erie County.
Visitors who contribute a donation will receive a complimentary wine tasting, with offerings varying by winery.
The participating wineries in Chautauqua County include: Liberty Vineyards & Winery, 21 Brix, Johnson Estate Winery, Mazza Chautauqua Cellars and Five & 20 Spirits and Brewing, Noble Winery, Sparkling Pond Winery and Willow Creek Winery.
A full list of participating wineries, including hours and locations, is available at www.lakeeriewinecountry.org.
“Gift of Giving is a great example of what happens when businesses, nonprofits, and caring neighbors come together,” said Amy Rohler, UWCHQ Executive Director. “Winter can be especially difficult for many families, and something as simple as a warm pair of gloves can make a world of difference. We’re grateful to Lake Erie Wine Country and its member wineries for opening their doors and their hearts to support our community by partnering with United Way.”
Suggested donations include new gloves and mittens, winter hats, scarves, and socks.
In Chautauqua County, United Way will distribute the items to the following community partners:
Chautauqua County Rural Ministry; Salvation Army of Dunkirk; Salvation Army of Jamestown; Boys & Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County; Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown; Community Helping Hands; UCAN City Mission and Chautauqua County After School and Childcare Programs.
All donations remain within the county where they are given, ensuring local impact.
Stretching 53 miles along the Lake Erie shoreline, Lake Erie Wine Country is home to more than 20 wineries known for warm hospitality, scenic vistas, and exceptional wine. The organization is proud to play a role in helping local families stay warm this winter.
“Our wineries are part of the fabric of this region, and supporting our neighbors is deeply important to us,” said Eric LeBlanc, Lake Erie Wine Country Executive Director. “The Gift of Giving initiative allows visitors to enjoy the beauty of our wine trail while making a meaningful impact. We’re delighted to partner with both United Ways to spread warmth throughout our communities.”
For more than 100 years, United Way has been the trusted nonprofit in Chautauqua County to mobilize the community and drive impact for lasting change. United Way is uniquely poised to connect all sectors of the community (individuals, businesses, nonprofits and government), and leverage those connections to mobilize people to action.
The mission of United Way of Chautauqua County is to mobilize the community to help every person and family improve their lives. To achieve that goal requires the help of individuals from all areas of the community.
