The theme for January is Practicing Resistance. On Sunday, “Existence Is Resistance”, with guest speaker Dr. Lee Golembiewski will be discussed.
Golembiewski’s talk will address the importance of resistance though maintaining identity. Among marginalized communities, there is power in simply continuing to live, thrive, and be oneself in the face of systemic oppression, occupation, or discrimination. In particular, trans individuals are faced with the threat of erasure in the U.S., and finding joy, being authentic, and building community is absolutely critical.
Golembiewski is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Lee has a specialization in developmental psychology and is passionate about teaching and service. Lee’s current research highlights the influence of campus climate, state/national support, and access to healthcare pertaining to mental health among LGBTQIA+ college students. Lee serves on the executive board of GLYS (Gay and Lesbian Youth Services of Western New York) and strives to provide representation and support to Trans and Gender Diverse (TGD) youth and young adults.
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua strives to be a vibrant, welcoming, multigenerational, diverse community enlivened by the power of radical love.
