The recent tax bills that were sent out for the town of Ripley, town of Ellicott, and the town Busti contained an error, which officials have quickly worked to begin to correct.

Ripley Town Clerk Ryleigh Enterline gave some further insight into what caused the mistake. Enterline stated that, at least for the town of Ripley, a third-party printing company is used to make the bills. Enterline said the reasoning for the mistake was because this third-party printing company attached the information for the town of Chautauqua to the back of the Ellicott, Ripley, and Busti bills. The bills allegedly directed residents of these three towns to pay the bills in Mayville, which cannot process these town’s tax payments. Additionally, the bills noted that bills can be paid online, which is not the case. Enterline noted that the town of Chautauqua can process tax bills online through a private website, which is not offered for any of the three towns. Enterline noted that the town of Ripley is currently working to offer online payment options, with the county setting up a system that the town will use when ready. While neither Ellicott or Busti offer online payments currently either, it is likely that these towns would also tap into an online county system when ready.

All three towns with printing mistakes have had corrective letters sent out at this point, which will hopefully begin to arrive to residents soon. For residents in the town of Ellicott, payments can be addressed to 215 S Work St, Falconer, NY 14733. For the town of Ripley, residents can address payments to 14 North State Street, Ripley, NY 14775. For the town of Busti, payments can be sent to 125 Chautauqua Avenue, Lakewood NY, 14750.
