Man dies in pedestrian accident

JAMESTOWN — A Jamestown resident died Saturday after a car-pedestrian accident on Falconer Street near Bowen Street.

Jamestown police reported Monday that officers responded to the scene at 6:08 p.m. Saturday on Falconer Street to find a man had been hit by a motor vehicle. Officers found Kendel R. Bell, 51, lying in the road, unresponsive. Officers tried to provide lifesaving measures until Jamestown firefighters and Alstar Ambulance EMTs arrived on scene. Bell was taken to UPMC Chautauqua at WCA and then to UPMC Hamot in Erie.

Bell passed away around 8:15 a.m. Sunday. The operator of the vehicle that struck Bell and called 911 is cooperating with the investigation as investigators continue to look into the incident.

Investigators are searching the area for video footage and are asking community members, who reside in the area of Lillian Dickson Park to contact the Jamestown Police Department at 716-483-7536 if they have footage of the incident.

There were 29 accidents involving pedestrians on Jamestown streets in 2024, including 13 injuries, according to the Jamestown Police Department’s 2024 annual report. That was a six-year high and the most in the city since 24 accidents involving pedestrians in 2022. The department’s 2025 report hasn’t been finished and released to the public yet.
