One person was injured in a fire that broke out at 7:25 p.m. Sunday at 523 Crescent St.

According to officials, an elderly woman was treated at the scene, and taken to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Crews arrived at the location reporting heavy smoke and fire observed the center area of the first-floor inside of the 2 1/2 story residence.

Jamestown Police Department Officers arrived at the location prior to JFD personnel, and entered the building through an open front door. Officers located the woman on the floor inside the residence and pulled her outside and began initial care, according to a press release.

interior fire attack on the first floor. Crews stretched another hand-attack hoseline inside the residence and assisted with interior fire attack. An outside ventilation of first floor windows was performed, and then firefighters entered the building to perform a primary search of the first floor. Ground ladders were set up on three sides of the building and firefighters performed a primary search of the second floor and attic space. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes, and the salvage and overhaul operation was completed within 90 minutes.

“It was under control within a half hour, said Interim Chief Ryan Roush. “They (crews) did a fantastic job getting the fire knocked down.”

Following the on-scene fire investigation, JFD investigators ruled the cause as accidental.

About 12 off-duty firefighters were called in to support crews on scene, and to attend to other 911 calls in the city. One JPD officer was evaluated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters returned at about 10:30 p.m.
