BEMUS POINT – A truck without a body was recovered from Chautauqua Lake near the Chautauqua Bridge. The vehicle was towed by boat to Long Point State Park where it was removed from the lake.
The truck was confirmed to belong to Daniel Emerson who has been missing from Lakewood since March 3. No one was located inside the truck when it was recovered and Daniel Emerson is still a missing person.
The Sheriff’s Office made the announcement Friday night.
Lakewood-Busti Police Chief Matthew Bentley said that the dive team located the vehicle around 9 a.m. Monday, but weather and murky water made it impossible Tuesday to open the door and inspect the inside of the vehicle.
Team members found the vehicle in shallow water between pillars 3 and 4, near the bridge.
“The truck is just stuck under the bridge,” Bentley said before it was pulled out.
Bentley said the county dive team was being assisted by dive teams from Erie County, Niagara County, and New York State Police.
Recently, Lakewood-Busti police had asked residents who have home or business surveillance cameras facing the lake to review footage for Tuesday, March 3, between 12:30 and 6 a.m. After that a tip came in about the missing truck.
Bentley said Daniel Scott Emerson had disappeared around 12:30 a.m. March 3 and the missing persons report was filed March 5 at 11:45 a.m.
