Jamestown man indicted in 2025 shooting

A second Jamestown man has been charged in connection to an early morning shooting July 24, 2025, near East Second and Cheney streets.

Jamestown police on Monday announced that Ian N. Sanchez, 24, of Jamestown has been indicted by a Chautauqua County Grant Jury on charges of attempted murder and first-degree assault. Sanchez was arraigned Monday in Chautauqua County Court and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail on $100,000 bail.

Officers arrived on the scene July 24, 2025, to find a man who had been shot several times. Officers provided immediate treatment to the man, who was then taken to UPMC Chautauqua and then flown to UPMC Hamot for further treatment.

Xavier M. Ramos was charged on July 25, 2025, with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He is still in the Chautauqua County Jail.

Sanchez was among six people charged after a raid in October 2024 at 221 E. Eighth St. A search of the apartment resulted in the seizure of 6.6 grams of cocaine, $1,161.00, and a quantity of cigarettes.Sanchez was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

In 2025 there were nine confirmed shootings in Jamestown, seven of which involved injuries. There were no fatal shootings in the city in 2025, according to the city’s 2025 crime report issued recently by the Jamestown Police Department.

In 2025, gunshot complaint calls for service decreased by 7.84 percent compared to 2024, and decreased by 20.34 percent compared to the five-year average of 118 calls. In 2024 there were 102 calls while in 2025 there were 94.

Seizures of firearms by JPD, in 2025, decreased by 15.25 percent compared to 2024, and decreased by 19.61 percent compared to the five-year average of 62.2 firearms. In 2024 there were 59 firearms seized as evidence, and in 2025, 50 firearms were seized.

JPD saw in 2025, weapons law offenses decrease by 31.50 percent as compared to 2024, and decrease by 5.84 percent as compared to the five-year average of 92.4 offenses.
