New exhibit, open house planned by Historical Society

A new exhibit featuring notable women is open.

The Historical Society of Dunkirk is excited to welcome the season with the opening of our newest exhibit, “Dance, Lead, Write, Vote, Play, Give… as Equals!” This display features a selection of some of the most accomplished women in Dunkirk as a way to inspire locals of all ages to celebrate the women in their lives.

Artifacts will be on display from notable women including dance instructor Eloise McMahan Heyl, author Wendy Corsi Staub, golfer Cindy Miller, stateswomen and philanthropist Edna “Betty” Boorady, and local women’s suffrage fighter Elnora M. Babcock. The museum will also feature local women’s organizations such as the Women’s Literary Club and the charitable works of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

The Historical Museum of Dunkirk, located at 513 Washington Ave. across from Washington Park, invites all members of the public to an open house on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers and staff will be available to answer questions about how members of the public can get involved in helping the society collect, research, preserve, and promote Dunkirk history. Regular open hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit will be open regular hours to the public until June 28.

Starting at $3.50/week.
