Webster named to Buffalo Broadcasters’ HOF
Dennis Webster is pictured earlier this week after the announcement he is being named to the Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
Dennis Webster, a longtime area broadcaster for WJTN, is one of six inductees into the Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame inductees.
“From historic headlines to everyday human stories, broadcasters have helped tell the story of Western New York while bringing our community closer together,” said BBA President Paula D’Amico. “This milestone year honors the professionals whose work informs, inspires, and connects us all.”
Webster spent roughly a half-century as a radio host for WJTN and the Media One Radio Group prior to his retirement in August 2024. Throughout his career, Webster became a household name in Chautauqua County, hosting a variety of programs on WJTN and becoming a trusted voice for local news, agriculture, and community affairs. Webster followed in his father’s footsteps, continuing a family tradition of broadcasting excellence that began more than half a century ago.
“I’m honored and humbled to be among this class of inductees for Buffalo Broadcasters for 2026,” Webster said in an interview with the broadcasters’ association earlier this week. “I think it’s excellent that this recognition occurs and I’m very happy to be brought in to be a part of it.”
Webster hosted the Saturday Morning Breakfast Party, which was inspired by Don McNeil’s Breakfast Club on ABC Radio, on Saturday mornings for more than 40 years as well as producing High School Bowl, an academic quiz competition that typically involves more than 20 area high schools, for 43 years. Webster also continued one of his father Doc Webster’s programs, the Farm Bureau Radio Show, for years.
“Overall the best part of it was I was so able to be in contact with the community and mirror the interests and the activities of the immediate area around Jamestown and Chautauqua County,” Webster said. “It was very fulfilling to do that.”
Other inductees include Scott Levin, who joined WGRZ-TV in 1998 and has won several Emmy Awards and the Edward R. Murrow Award; Jon Summers, who joined WKBW-AM in 1974, was the imaging voice of WKBW-TV ‘s Eyewitness News and he served on AM Buffalo as an announcer and segment host; Sandy Kozel, a longtime news anchor at WGR-AM and reporter for WGRZ-TV; Bob Koshinski, a four-decade broadcast veteran who served as vice president/general manager of the Empire Sports Network, all-sports WNSA-FM, and WBBZ-TV; Rick Swenson, a photojournalist who worked at WKBW-TV for 33 years covering news and sports.
The induction ceremony will be held Sept. 17 at Salvatore’s in Depew. Tickets are available at https://buffalobroadcasters.com.
