At the Chautauqua County Legislature meeting, County Executive PJ Wendel officially recognized March as both “Choose to Include Month” and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
The proclamation celebrates the contributions of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and encourages the community to foster inclusive opportunities for all.
First established nationally in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month encourages Americans to provide support, encouragement, and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to lead full and productive lives.
“Equitable experiences and full inclusion are a matter of social justice,” the proclamation states. “Creating inclusive environments is the responsibility of everyone.”
