FREWSBURG – The Frewsburg Central School District Board of Education has adopted its 2026-27 spending plan.

In March, school officials agreed to eliminate about 8.5 positions to help balance the budget.

The eliminations are an assistant principal position, one full-time cleaner position, two special education teachers through attrition, one secondary math teacher through attrition, three full-time teacher aide positions, and one part-time secretary.

Interim Superintendent Lynda Quick previously said that people are leaving and the district will not be replacing the special education teachers. Due to retirement, the district will not replace one FTE secondary math teacher, those classes will be shifted to be taught by another teacher.

In February, the budget was $25,277,100 and in March it was pared to $24,291,748, a 2.9 percent increase over the current 2025-26 budget.

Quick said that health insurance costs also have increased by $461,574, and the district is also reducing its BOCES budget by $104,000 for 2026-2027. Quick also noted that one area of concern is the foundation aid provided by New York State, in Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposed state budget. Quick said like other school districts in the region, Frewsburg’s projected state aid is about 1%.

On April 30, the budget will be available to the public; on May 7, at 6:30 p.m., a public hearing will be held in the middle/high school library; on May 19 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. the budget vote and board member election will take place, and on May 21 the school board will meet in the library at 5:30 p.m.

In other business:

The board approved the creation of two new extra curricular clubs for the 2026-27 school year. Students will be able to join a music club and an art club. The music club adviser is Drew Minton, and the art club adviser is Lindsey Vitello.

The district accepted a $30,000 donation from the estate of Diane Benson for the purchase of books for the middle/high school library.

The board approved the appointment of Daniel Bracey as interim middle school/high school assistant principal from April 13 through June 30. For the 2026-27 school year, there will be a dean of students position that will replace the assistant principal position. The board also approved Bracey as the lead evaluator of teachers.

Starting at $3.50/week.
