The Kraus Seminar on Smart City Research will be led by State University of New York at Fredonia faculty in April.

The event is slated for Monday in Williams Center Room S204ABC, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The seminar is sponsored by the Kraus/Fredonia Conversations in the Disciplines Award established through the Fredonia College Foundation and co-sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Buffalo Section.

SUNY Distinguished Professor Junaid Zubairi is serving as chair and Dr. Syed Haider, an associate professor in the Department of Computer Information Sciences, Dr. Megan Johnson, an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, are co-chairs of the seminar.

The event will feature distinguished researchers from around the world presenting their work on topics such as artificial intelligence in urban systems, sustainable infrastructure, intelligent transportation, IoT-enabled services and data-driven governance.

The seminar aims to foster collaboration, share innovative solutions, and explore strategies for building resilient, efficient, and inclusive urban environments. Confirmed speakers include Dr. Jim Conrad, former President IEEE USA, and Dr. Mohammed Shahidehpour, who is an IEEE fellow and distinguished professor at IIT, Chicago, among others.

It is the first SUNY Fredonia event to be co-sponsored by IEEE, considered by some to be the world’s largest professional and technical organization.

The Kraus/Fredonia Conversations in Discipline Award is named after Dr. Jon Kraus, who is a professor emeritus of political science at SUNY Fredonia. He received several honors and awards during his career in Fredonia including SUNY Conversations in the Disciplines awards. He and his wife established the Jon and Wilma Kraus Endowment and initiated the Kraus/Fredonia Conversations in the Disciplines award through the Fredonia College Foundation.
