Woman faces 17 child welfare endangerment charges

Amanda M. Pearsall

A Jamestown woman faces 17 counts of endangering the welfare of a child for alleged offenses dating back to November.

At 2 p.m. Monday, Jamestown police officers charged Amanda M. Pearsall, 31, of Jamestown for outstanding endangering the welfare of a child warrants. Pearsall was charged with 17 counts of endangering the welfare of a child for leaving her three children, ages 5 months, 1 year and 4 years old, unsupervised in the home on multiple different occasions in November 2025.

Pearsall was arraigned in Jamestown City Court where she was released and is due back in court at a later date.

According to state data, there were 201 separate incidents of endangering the welfare of a child in 2024 throughout Chautauqua County. That ranks eighth-highest in New York state, according to state Division of Criminal Justice Services statistics, and the fourth-highest of the non-New York City counties behind only Suffolk County (291), Erie County (349), and Monroe County (210).

Endangering the welfare of a child in New York (Penal Law § 260.10) is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail, probation, and fines. It involves knowingly acting in a manner likely to harm a child under 17’s physical, mental, or moral welfare, or failing to prevent a child from becoming neglected or abused.

In December, Pearsall was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree possession of a weapon and aggravated criminal contempt. On Christmas Eve, Jamestown police took a complaint of a domestic dispute that occurred at an East Second Street residence. The victim had visible injuries and reported to officers that Pearsall used a knife to forcibly steal his phone and prevented him from leaving the residence. Pearsall was later arrested. She was arraigned in Jamestown City Court and temporarily taken to the Chautauqua County Jail.
