Dunkirk man sentenced for cocaine possession
A Dunkirk man has been sentenced for possession of illegal drugs.
According to District Attorney Jason Schmidt, 42-year-old Jorge Negron Velasquez was sentenced by Judge David Foley to 6 years in state prison with 3 years of post-release supervision after being convicted of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
In February 2024, the Dunkirk Police Department conducted a traffic stop of Negron Velasquez and located a large quantity of cocaine following a search of the vehicle he was driving.
In July 2024, Negron Velasquez was indicted by a Chautauqua County Grand Jury on one count of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A-II felony, for the weight of the cocaine being more than 4 ounces, and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony.
Negron Velasquez pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of the indictment on Sept. 22, 2025 at a pre-trial conference before the trial was scheduled to begin in October.
The District Attorney would like to thank the Dunkirk Police Department for their work on this case and for their assistance in the prosecution.
