Two longtime Gowanda employees retire
GOWANDA — The Gowanda Board of Education has recently accepted several resignations, including two for the purpose of retirement.
Janene Draegert is set to retire as a Keyboard Specialist at the end of the school year after 26 years with the district. Draegert said in her letter of resignation, “I truly have enjoyed my time at GCS and was fortunate enough to have worked with so many wonderful students and staff over the past 26 years.”
Barbara Krawczyk will retire as a Physical Therapist on Aug. 25 after 33 years with the district. Krawczyk said in her letter of resignation, “It has been a privilege to watch the students achieve milestones, both big and small. I am grateful for the collaboration and support of the staff members I have worked alongside throughout my career.
While I look forward to the next chapter of life and the opportunities retirement will bring, I will miss the daily interactions with students and colleagues that have meant so much to me during my career.”
Superintendent Dr. Robert Anderson congratulated both retirees and called it a pleasure to work with both of them over his tenure as Superintendent. He called both employees “outstanding” and said they will “definitely be missed.”
The Board also accepted the resignation of Rebecca Moran, a first grade teacher at Gowanda Elementary School. Her resignation takes effect at the end of the current school year.
Moran said in her letter of resignation, “I am sincerely grateful for the professional opportunities I have been afforded during my tenure at Gowanda Elementary School. It has been a privilege to contribute to the academic growth and development of our students and to collaborate with such a dedicated and supportive faculty and staff.”
The Board also rescinded the previously approved appointment of Connor Ziegler to a full-time probationary position of School Psychologist. Ziegler, who is provisionally certified as a School Psychologist, was appointed on April 1.
Other recent resignations at Gowanda include Bus Driver Colton Clareus, Substitute Teacher/Teaching Assistant/School Monitor Lynn Shea, and School Monitor/Substitute Food Service Helper Susan Carr. Elise Forbes resigned as Substitute Teacher/Teaching Assistant.
The district elected to abolish two positions classified as internal suspension aides. The two least senior employees holding the title, Dillon Dentice and Terri Farley, will be excessed at the end of the school year.
The Board passed a resolution to move forward with an emergency repair project of the district’s facilities following a hail storm earlier this year. The damage is estimated at a minimum of $1 million. The project pertains to the reconstruction and/or removal and replacement of the damaged/failed mechanical equipment, skylights, gym floors, roofing, siding, scoreboards, street signs, and other damaged elements.
The district also declared its emergency repair project as a Type II Action under the State Environmental Quality Review Act. An agreement regarding data privacy with the RIC ONE Risk Operations Center was approved, as well.
