American Revolutionary War marker dedication held in Stockton

At the Stockton Greenwood Ceremony, the historical marker was dedicated in honor of Revolutionary War Veterans.

STOCKTON — At the Greenwood Cemetery in Stockton, a dedication ceremony was held for the installation of a Revolutionary War Patriot Marker. The American Revolutionary War was from April 19, 1775 until September 3, 1783. During this time, there were 165 principal engagements as the soldiers from the original 13 colonies fought for independence from Great Britain. Men left their families and farms to fight in the war. Approximately 25,000 died during this time of war for independence. Many are buried in their hometown cemeteries. The William G. Pomeroy Foundation of Syracuse operates the Revolutionary War program and has partnered with the Sons of American Revolution (S.A.R.) to place these markers where Revolutionary War Veterans are buried. These markers are generously funded and provided through a grant process.

The dedication ceremony in Stockton began with a welcome to all by Paul Fardink, who is the Vice President of Chautauqua County Chapter S.A.R. Patriot Marker Program. The invocation was given by Rev. Richard Hamilton of the Stockton Community Church. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by John Sipos, Town of Stockton Board member and Stockton Town Historian.

The message was presented by Town of Stockton Supervisor David Wilson. The unveiling of the marker was by Supervisor Wilson and Historian Sipos. The Honor Guard Rifle Salute was by the Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280 led by Rusty Jones, and Taps was played by Diman Smith. Historian Sipos then read the roll call of Revolutionary War Veterans with a brief biography of each. Fardink then recognized descendants of each veteran, and closed the dedication ceremony.

Stockton was named after one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, Richard Stockton. The markers are blue with yellow raised lettering and border. The top of each marker has the state’s SAR chapter logo, and is totally funded by the Foundation.

Starting at $4.00/week.
