The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of "Power Ballad" on Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick's songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves -- even if it means risking everything he cares about.
The Post (NZ) calls the film "a well put-together yarn. It is funny as hell at times, but there’s a bit of grit and substance to it too." The Hollywood Reporter calls it "a little bit familiar, a little bit unexpected and utterly, thrillingly satisfying." The Times (London) calls it "solid, sweet and smartly crafted entertainment." Rated R for some drug use and language, "Power Ballad" runs one hour, 38 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
