SHERMAN - Have you ever seen a dog spin in midair to catch a flying frisbee or navigate a complicated pattern of obstacles on an agility course and thought "How do they train their dog to do that?" Dog Sports Day is your answer!

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County 4-H is proud to announce Dog Sports Day. The event will be hosted at The K9 Complex (123 Prospect St., Sherman) on Aug. 1, from 2-4 p.m. This event is free and geared for youth in grades K-12, even those who are not currently 4-H members. Please leave your dog at home to reduce distractions to our demo dogs.

Registration at https://bit.ly/CHQDogDay by July 27 is not required but will guarantee a swag bag full of goodies to train your dog at home, notice if we must cancel due to weather, and reminders of the other sessions in the 4-H and Purina: Unleash Potential Series.

Youth will begin the day with an introduction to the basics of dog training, then rotate through demonstrations of Agility, Fast CAT, Scent Work, Disc, and Barn Hunt with a short demonstration of how to start training their dog at home for each sport. Youth will have the opportunity to make a dog toy to take home and one to donate to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, learn about competing in Fast CAT, and have an opportunity to sign up to try Dock Diving, Fast CAT, Canine Good Citizen, and Farm Dog with their dogs.

4-H would like to say thank you to the Chautauqua County dog community for partnering with CCE Chautauqua on this event: The K9 Complex, The Pointer and the Pin, Lake Effect Disc Dogs, the Conewango Valley Kennel Club, and Chautauqua County Humane Society - we are so grateful for your support and desire to share your love of dogs!

Also, a huge thank you to Purina for awarding 4-H this grant which covers new agility equipment for our 4-H program, entries for youth in an AKC Fast CAT event, and these educational sessions!

The additional educational sessions are:
