‘The Breadwinner’ showing as part of Cinema Series

Nate Bergatze stars in “The Breadwinner.”

The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of the comedy “The Breadwinner” this Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.

To Nate (Nate Bergatze) and their three children, Katie (Mandy Moore) is the ultimate mom — she manages their comically chaotic household with equal parts efficiency and love; and everything runs perfectly. But when Katie’s household invention leads to a once-in-a-lifetime deal and takes her on a prolonged business trip, Nate has to figure out how to keep the house from (literally) falling apart. He and his kids soon learn that while he may not do it like mom, he can figure out how to do it his way.

Behind The Lens calls the film “one of the year’s most genuinely funny crowd-pleasers — the kind of laugh-until-you’re-crying comedy that understands the best humor comes from recognizable truth pushed to delightfully absurd extremes.” AARP Movies for GrownUps calls it “Mr. Mom for the smartphone generation” and Moviefone calls it “a very relatable comedy that is perfect for families.” Rated PG for mild suggestive references, “The Breadwinner” runs one hour, 39 minutes.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
