Group seeks donations to help with hurricane recovery work

A local organization that went down south a few times to help communities recover from Hurricane Helene is heading back and is seeking donations.
According to Kevin Weaver with Missions of Helping Hands, the organization is going back to Swannanoa Valley, North Carolina for the seventh time since Helene happened in September 2024.
They plan to leave Oct. 10 and return by Oct. 17.
"Since Helene hit, our team along with other teams have paired up and gotten 1,013 families back into their homes and have 578 homes scheduled for this year, along with 22 brand new builds being started," Weaver said.
Weaver notes Missions of Helping Hands travels across the country helping out when natural disaster hits working with other volunteers and organizations. They have been to Katy, Texas; New Orleans; Crisfield, Maryland; Columbia, South Carolina; and Wilmington, North Carolina. "Each team member takes time off and volunteers and pays for their own lodging, food, and travel," he added.
Weaver noted there are friends and families of Missions of Helping Hands members in the Asheville, North Carolina area.
"As we go and do this we are in great need of donations to purchase supplies to continue help getting families back into homes as there still living in tents and campers," Weaver said. "We need donations to purchase building materials, lumber, plumbing, etc. If we don’t get donations we cannot help get more families back into homes."
