Forestville re-elects Spengler as Board President

FORESTVILLE -- More than two years ago, Andrea Spengler stepped into the role of Forestville Board of Education President. She took over for her "great mentor and friend", Amy Drozdziel.
Now, for the third straight summer, Spengler has been re-elected to the role she has become more and more comfortable in as the years go by. Spengler was nominated by Jamie Gruber as the only nominee for the role. She received unanimous support to continue as Board President.
The role of Vice President led to much more consideration.
Spengler nominated Gruber to serve as Vice President, as she did in each of Spengler's last two years as President. However, Jamie Hebner nominated Derek Case to the role of Vice President. Both candidates accepted their nominations. Case and Hebner were both re-elected to seats on the Board in May, along with Lindsey Ellis.
After a 4-3 vote, Case was elected as Vice President. He was seated beside Spengler at the subsequent meeting.
The Board also approved a series of appointments, designations, authorizations, and budget transfers for the upcoming school year. Rates were established and the Board's policies and bylaws were reaffirmed. The committee assignments for the district were also approved by the Board.
As the school year approaches, there is still plenty of construction ongoing at the district's facilities as part of the 2025 Capital Project. The parking lot at the Middle/High School is being fully replaced, and while it will likely be under construction throughout August, the district's hope is it will be finished by the first day of school. The Elementary Cafeteria is currently being renovated, as well. If it is not finished by the start of school, the district will utilize the Elementary Gym as an eating space until the renovations are completed.
Also of note, the Board of Education recently adopted the district's wellness policy, as well as updates to its Code of Conduct, Athletic Handbook, and Student Handbooks. The Board also approved the District-wide Emergency Response Plan.
The 2026-27 tax levy was Board-approved for the approximate amount of $4,242,810. Agreements with Lake Shore Child Care Center Inc. for universal pre-kindergarten services and with Stacey Lovern for occupational therapy services were also approved. An agreement with ESI for the Employee Assistance Program through June 30, 2027 was renewed in the amount of $3,200. R.A. Mercer & Co. P.C., was hired to conduct the external audit for the period ending on June 30, 2026.
The next regular Forestville Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the Alene J. Bradigan Library at Forestville Middle/High School.
